Re: upper bevel help

You can’t rush some of the jobs on these engines. I took mine apart 6 or 7 times before I was happy with the top bevel meshing. I used a socket to keep the shaft centralised but maybe was lucky I had one which was a nice fit. I measured the gasket thickness and protrusion of the collar and all seeme...

Re: Ignition and electrical

From my simple understanding (as a mechanical engineer), 12v means that less current flow is needed for any given power e.g. headlamp bulb so less power loss in wires etc. My recently rebuilt 175 is running standard points ignition with the original generator. I’ve fitted an Electrex reg-rec set to ...

Re: crank shim issue

Don’t the shims all go on the same side? Will need to check my notes to see what I did.
What I can remember is that apparent endfloat does not exactly relate to the shim thickness to adjust. I guess there is a little bit of distortion when everything is tightened down.

Re: hairpin valve springs wear

That’s reassuring because that’s what mine looked like, and I refitted with the steps smoothed out a bit.
They’re not too expensive to buy, but easy for costs to get out of control with these little bikes.

Re: 175TS in UK

A few things from last couple of weeks: Checked speedometer against GPS on my phone and it's reading about 10% higher than true speed. Fixed a couple of oil leaks, but the 2 that remain are the "175" cam end cover and the joint between the bevel tower and the head. I might leave them for n...

Re: Bakelite fuel cap

Made a steel insert to fit behind the leather seal, and that seems to have sorted it out. The Bevelrubber cap is a bit pricey!

Re: Staccato/Nova primary/clutch

Looks interesting Matt. Someone has put a lot of effort into designing and making those bits. Is there a significant performance gain?

Re: Ducati 350 scrambler 5th gear issue

If it’s the same as my narrow case, the bevel tower comes off with the head and can be done with it all in the frame. If you mean the bottom part of the housing then it’s a bigger job. If you take the banjo arrangement off, can you squirt some oil in to see if if drains away? Mine leaked when first ...

Re: 175TS in UK

Checked on carb settings in my notes - carb is 24mm, pilot 35, atomiser 266, needle D29, main 104. Higher compression "Sport" piston fitted. At about half throttle in top, we're doing 50mph according to the speedo. Hopefully will be good for 70+ once run in. Not sure about speedo accuracy ...
