Re: New 250 Project Adventure

Have been involved in other stuff lately. I picked up a new blasting cabinet off CL. I blasted the 350 tank at my friend Jake's because it was just too big for my Horror Fright benchtop cabinet. Before I remembered Jake had a good sized cabinet, I found this ALC unit and the price was 1/4 the price ...

Re: Aluminium front brake levers snapping?

I had a repop lever snap for a vintage Honda. I told the vendor about it. Not only dangerous on the road, but razor sharp at the fracture. Mine snapped while taking a bike off a lift. Had heavy work gloves on. I have never heard of any OEM lever snapping under breaking. Liability would be huge. Rega...

Re: New 250 Project Adventure

Okay, back to tank. I pondered on this over the holidays and decided that the crack was from the stamping process and any residual stresses were gone. Brazing would probably impart new stresses into the area so I decided to solder it. First I pressure tested it again after flooding the area with ace...

Re: Chrome plating fork tubes

Assuming that the tubes are straight, there is an expensive way to fix pitted tubes. JB Weld is your answer. It helps to have a lathe, but that is not a requirement. First, you bead blast the pitted areas to remove all rust. Then you butter a thin coating of JB Weld on so fill the pits. Then it is s...

Re: New 250 Project Adventure

Thanks for the responses, guy. I did a bunch of research on line after posting initially and found several good articles on the subject of stop holes. Most were related to bridges and crack in the structural steel. Not really applicable, but interesting nonetheless. What was most interesting is the ...

Re: New 250 Project Adventure

I remember there being a rule of thumb regarding the size of a crack stop hole. But for the life of me cannot remember what it was. I'm glad you mentioned this. I will research the subject. I do tend to think that even if I drilled two 1/16" holes at the end of each crack that it would be benef...

Re: New 250 Project Adventure

Took the tank over to my buddy's Jake's shop and blasted all the paint off. My blast cabinet was just too cramped to do the tank. Thought I noticed a leak by on petcock bung during the blasting process. I had remnant of min spirits in the tank and it looked like they were leaching out. I had noticed...

Re: Happy holidays

Merry Christmas to you guys too.

If I wanted bevel parts scattered under the tree, should have put the tree in the basement.

regards,
Rob

Re: New 250 Project Adventure

For grins I did a search on "auto body hot glue" to see if they made a hot glue with more bite for this kind of work. I found this and thought it was pretty interesting. It is bascially what I made for myself, only it uses a much smaller slide hammer. https://www.vidaxl.com/p/210299/32-pie...

Re: New 250 Project Adventure

Thanks Brian. Another reason I did this dry, was in case it turns out I need to line the tank. I'd prefer not to have to degrease the interior. Pulled the dents today. Used my trusty "Dent-B-Gone" which was another hair-brained invention I came up with, only to find out they have been usin...
