Re: Narrowcase crankcase screws

I read somewhere that the old race mech(Franco Farne?) used to coat the gasket with ( olive?) oil and tighten up till it sqeezed beads out.As they knew they would need to get back inside sometime soon they probably did not mind a bit of oil seepage in use.

Re: 250 noisy top end

Can you see plenty of oil in the valve chambers?, They can run for a long time with no supply at all to the head .run it with the cam drive cover off to check the pump is working.

Re: Static ignition timing

Sounds like you have a std battery/coil/points system and a modern alternator, I would try it with 6 degrees static advance.

Re: Static ignition timing

Where I am heading here is trying to find out if you have a conventional coil ignition system which usually employs a battery and an adv/retard unit that has a range of 28 degrees when compared to crankshaft position (14 on the unit doubled by the gears) ,or a mag system ,sometimes without a battery...

Re: Static ignition timing

The advance and retard units have a code number on them, with a bike of this age anything could be in there and they vary a lot . If the bike has a non std ignition system this may dictate what advance and retard would be the best, and the easiest to live with. More information would help.I'm not eve...

Re: Static ignition timing
