Re: UK Ducati 250 mk3

Well, if it is a spanish made engine, it would have been equipped with a Motoplat ignition/alternator (which is known to produce a weak spark and to fail often). Also, the oil pump drive gear, idling between crankshaft and points shaft, is made from plastics and is known to wear or fail prematurely....

Re: UK Ducati 250 mk3

Hi, the Haynes manual is a good starter for the late w/c singles. It deals also with both electronic ignition systems (Ducati and Motoplat); one of these should be present in a 1974 model (no points). Re: Mach 1 Red Paint code

From an older Lechler list:

250 MACH 1 1964-67
COLORE PRINCIPALE ROSSO CORSA DUC A13
PARTICOLARI IN ALTRA TINTA GRIGIO PERLA MET DUC A18

Lechler is the italian company which produced the paints for nearly all italian motorbikes, is still active today.

Re: 4 speed shift pattern?

Ian,

you will experience that shifting will be easy when the engine runs and all gears/selectors are immered in oil. Don't worry.
A difference in up- and down-shifting might be regulated with the excentric adjuster screw/locking nut mechanism in the gear selctor box. Try it out.

Re: Kickstarter gears and parts

 for your comment ... Addendum: I just grabbed Mick Walker's book "Ducati singles restoration" from my shelf, and found a page describing kickstart issues in it. Mr. Walker writes: Kickstarter For many years this was the Achilles' heel of the Ducati single in its aspiration to become ...

Re: Static ignition timing

You might find your engine no. in this booklet http://www.motoscrubs.com/Ducati_Electrics/Ign_Flywheel.htm. Possibly it helps tpo identify the bike.
