Re: 175TS forks

Ian, The damper rod/piston are simply mild steel. The front fork is a very basic, unsophisticated design so nothing very high tech in there. The fork tubes aren’t hard chromed so they rust and wear from the external springs rubbing on the tube. Best you can hope for is that the sliders are serviceab...

Re: 250 Crank Pin Bearing

Hi Nigel,

I’ll have to have another look at the M1S crankshaft, haven’t had it out for a while. I do recall a bronze bearing cage. I was going to post pictures of it just for posterity. It has a number of curious design features.

Re: Race Brake Lining

Hi Eldert, Yes, spoke with Michael Morse, very highly regarded in the field. Would be several months before Vintage Brake perform the work. Vintage Brake lists a number of linings to choose from but do not positively identify as Ferodo product. Is 2520V Ferodo product? I was lead to believe that Fer...

Race Brake Lining

I’d like to have a TLS front brake relined with race specification friction material. Nearly all providers in the USA cater to the automotive/truck market. There is one source but long lead times and very costly. I would do it myself so I inquired with Ferodo Racing in Italy about the availability o...

Electronic Tachometer

I’m considering my options for electronic tachometers. Scitsu appears to be a popular and relatively affordable option. But I’ve seen a number of accounts that the product can have a short life. I sent one back to Scitsu for repair (full disclosure: I had never seen it actually functioning) and Dyla...

Re: 250 Crank Pin Bearing

Right, K: stamped sheet metal cages, KZK, machined steel. Lost my bearings for a moment there… The alloy cages in the standard Ducati rod seem to hold up OK but I’ve seen one or two in very loose rods that broke up. The Mach 1S crankshaft uses a bronze cage. It has occurred to me that sleeving a rod...

Re: 250 Crank Pin Bearing

Dave,
The bearings I use are not KZK. The KZK cages are a sheet metal stamping that are designed to retain the needles. The bearing I use has a machined bronze cage. The needles are loose same as the original Ducati big end bearing but the original mass production cage is made of aluminum.

Re: 250 Crank Pin Bearing

IKO and INA have some interesting information on motorcycle specific big end caged roller bearings: http://www.ikont.com/catalogs/needle-roller-bearing-series/5508_3_E_KT-EG.pdf https://www.schaeffler.us/remotemedien/media/_shared_media/08_media_library/01_publications/schaeffler_2/tpi/downloads_8/t...

Re: NC Front hub issues.

The stock bearing spacer is made of pretty lousy material. The much harder inner race of the bearings mashes the ends of the spacers leading to excessive axial clearance. Ideally, the spacer would be made of harder material that wouldn’t deteriorate. Brazing or welding will bring the spacer back to ...
