Rust on the inside with some small dents on the outside.
This one petcock area got an ugly brazed repair to fill a hole in the thin bottom.
This forward tank mount perforated.
The tank repair consists of many different tasks: repair of the brazed petcock, creating templates of the tank graphics, repair of the tiny dents, re-weld the tank mount, a rust-removing boil-out of the inside, pressure testing for leaks, sealing the inside tank walls, blasting-priming-repainting, the additional painting of the tank graphics, pin striping around the tank graphics, and decal application.
To insure that each subsequent process would not be impeded by improper or substandard execution of the previous ones, to insure that the materials used (interior tank coating, exterior primer) would be compatible with subsequent stages, to insure that the painter could record the tank graphics prior to the blasting off of the old paint, and to minimize the risks incurred in transit and handling it was important to find one shop that could perform and be responsible for all the required work.
Based on recommendations and a confidence inspiring phone conversation with Kent Holt, Holt BMW Ducati in Athens Ohio has been commissioned to repair the tank.
